World Meningitis Day took place on 24th of April and the “Tackle Meningitis Campaign” was initiated by Irish and UK rugby heroes Rory Best and Matt Dawson in association with this event. Both sportsmen are really passionate about supporting this very worthy initiative, with Matt having endured the harrowing personal experience of his son contracting meningitis. The goal of the campaign was to help eliminate the confusion that still exists amongst parents around the symptoms of meningitis. 200,000 free “signs and symptoms” cards were distributed to communicate simple, clear and accurate information about the early signs of this often-devastating condition and the vital steps to take in cases where it is suspected.
At Riverwest we think this is a very important initiative and we want to say well done to Rory and Matt for their hard work in helping to get this life-saving information out there.
